Much like states are divided into counties and cities, these localities are made up of smaller areas referred to as wards (Fredericksburg) or districts (Stafford and Spotsylvania). In Spotsylvania, there are seven election districts, and each has a representative serving on the board of supervisors. 

They are: Battlefield, Berkeley, Chancellor, Courtland, Lee Hill, Livingston and Salem.
