James Monroe Yellow Jackets begin their 2014 varsity football season at 7 p.m. August 29, with an away game against Stafford.
All ten regular season games are scheduled at 7 p.m. Friday evenings. Home games are played in Maury Stadium, located at Kenmore Avenue, Hanover Street and George Street.
Varsity football head coach is Rich Serbay. The assistant coaches are Darryl Dyson, Sr., Val Folden, Kenton Griffin, Eddie Haynes, Don Joy, George Major, Jonathan Phipps and Sammy Serbay.

University of Mary Washington (UMW) President Richard Hurley ordered a hiring freeze this week in light of the projected state budget shortfall of $2.4 billion over three years announced by Gov. Terry McAuliffe.

The Yellow Jackets pulled it out in overtime, defeating the Stafford Indians 24 – 23 in the first varsity football game of the 2014 season.
“Stafford dominated in the first half,” said color commentator Bob Blackman on Fbedu educational access channel 18 on Cox Cable. James Monroe came to life in the second half. With less than a minute left in the fourth quarter, the Yellow Jackets scored, ending regulation play in a 17 – 17 tie.

The second annual Eagle Nation Day will be hosted by the University of Mary Washington Athletics department beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6. It will be held at the Battleground Athletic Complex off Hanover Street and on the UMW campus in Fredericksburg. The first 500 children and youth will receive a free t-shirt.

The University of Mary Washington formally dedicated its Information and Technology Convergence Center with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, Sept. 18.
The four-story, 77,000 square-foot structure opened to students in August. The building is located adjacent to Simpson Library and straddling Campus Walk.
