Some county teachers worry that the recent actions of the Spotsylvania School Board will negatively impact recruitment efforts.

Parents, librarians and students spoke out against the conduct of School Board members Kirk Twigg and Rabih Abuismail at meetings and their comments supporting the burning of books.

(Twigg/Abuismail no) The school board attorney said the vote was unconstitutional. School Superintendent Dr. Scott Baker says that entire policy is being reviewed.

The Stafford School Board has appointed Dr. Thomas Taylor as the new school superintendent effective December 1. He’s currently the Deputy Assistant for Chesterfield County.

The Board will hold a meeting next week to find out the number and whether to expand the type of books and whether to have a full school division library audit.

No school in Spotsylvania on the Monday and Tuesday of Thanksgiving week. The vote was unanimous by the Spotsylvania School Board.

Cash donations or products for Treasure House will be accepted. Treasure House is at Massaponax High School and offers homeless students or those struggling financially a place to shop each month.
