by | Aug 26, 2023 | Police and Fire

From the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office:

On August 24, 2023, a deputy assigned to the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division was arrested for driving under the influence and refusal of breath or blood sample.
At approximately 8PM, a citizen called the Sheriff’s Office and reported a single vehicle accident on Leavells Road in the area of Battlefield Elementary School. Upon deputies’ arrival they encountered William Campbell. During the interaction with Campbell, deputies immediately noticed a strong odor of alcohol and unsteadiness. Campbell was subsequently arrested.
Campbell was off-duty and driving his personal vehicle at the time of arrest. Campbell has been employed with the Sheriff’s Office since January of 2023. William Campbell is no longer employed with the Sheriff’s Office effective on this date.
“Those of us that are employed as law enforcement officers are held to the highest standards and those that cannot conform to those standards have no place in this line of work. Drinking and driving is a serious offense as it endangers innocent people on the roadway. Furthermore, I would like to commend the deputies who investigated this incident without bias” – Sheriff Roger Harris
