From DMV:
Whether you plan ahead, take life one task at a time, or prefer to stay at home in your pajamas, Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has a service option for you.
The days of not knowing how long you’ll be at DMV are done. Customers can save time by making an appointment, reserving their walk-in spot in advance, checking wait times before a walk-in visit, or taking advantage of more than 50 services available at dmvNOW.com.
“We’re taking the guess work out of DMV business,” said Acting Commissioner Linda Ford. “Our service options and resources help customers tailor their DMV experience to easily fit it into their daily lives. They can make an appointment, reserve a spot for same-day service, know the wait time before walking in, or, in many cases, skip the visit altogether and use our online services.”
On average, DMV does more than 38,000 transactions per day, and 56% of those are handled online – with zero wait time. For those transactions that require in-person service like obtaining a new driver’s license, customers can minimize their time at DMV by choosing the best option to suit their needs and their lifestyle.
Like to plan ahead? Appointments are available at all DMV locations Monday-Friday and provide service at a set time you choose.
Want speedy service with more flexibility? Reserve your spot for same-day service before you arrive. Find your local office at our locations webpage and scan or text the code and follow the prompts to save your place.
Need service immediately? Walk-ins are welcome Monday-Saturday for all services, and our online wait times can help you decide when to visit.
You can also learn more about the best days and times to visit your local DMV by following our new regional hashtags on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Each hashtag compiles DMV’s content into locally relevant streams and includes information about wait times, office operations and more.
