Stafford County will hold its annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at the Armed Services Memorial on the Stafford County Government campus. All veterans and the public are invited to join Stafford in recognizing all who have served our country. As well, the ceremony will be streamed on Facebook Live at www.facebook.com/staffordcountygovernment.
The keynote speaker for the ceremony is Sergeant Major Jacqueline Y. Townsel. Sgt. Maj. Townsel is the Sergeant Major for Security Battalion, Marine Corps Base Quantico. She is also the only female on the command staff. She is in her 23rd year of service. Highlights of her service include serving in the Marine Wing Support Squadron at Camp Pendleton, acting as a drill instructor at Parris Island, deploying in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and earning the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
Out of deference to other local observations, Stafford annually holds it Veterans Day ceremony on a day other than Veterans Day. This year, the ceremony is being held on November 10, the day the Marine Corps turns 247-years-old. This birthday will be recognized with special cupcakes. Also, carnations will be given to attendees to lay at the memorial.
The memorial is located on the west side of the campus of the George L. Gordon, Jr., Government Center, 1300 Courthouse Road, Stafford, VA 22554.
