From Stafford County:
Stafford continues to invest in its utility infrastructure by constructing its newest elevated water storage tank. The $6.25 million project for the new tank, located off Enon Road, will hold two million gallons of water once it is completed in the fall of 2023.
This additional water tank is needed to facilitate an increased flow of water from the Lake Mooney Water Treatment Facility in the southern portion of the County to the north. Lake Mooney and the Smith Lake Reservoir in the north were designed to meet the community’s water needs for many years. Together, they provide an average of 9.4 million gallons of water to Stafford County residents daily.
“As we have seen in Flint, MI, and Jackson, MS, access to clean, quality water is critical to the community,” said Chairman of the Board of Supervisors Crystal Vanuch, Rock Hill District. “We are constantly working to ensure we have an abundant supply for years to come.”
Stafford County is investing in its public water infrastructure to accommodate its continued population growth and to provide a resilient utility system for its customers in the future. A rise in residents increases the need for water storage and supply. This new water tank is part of a group of projects aimed at improving water flow and delivery to the northern and eastern portions of the County’s public water system to supplement the water supply to those areas.
The Enon Water Tank will be located adjacent to the current Abel Lake Water Reservoir and pumping station. The Enon Water Tank will be approximately 100 feet tall and constructed in the style of a composite tank. It will look similar to the tanks at Stafford Hospital and Celebrate Virginia Parkway, with a concrete base and pillar with a steel bowl. Drivers along Enon Road between I-95 and Truslow Road should be aware of construction traffic possibly causing short stoppages throughout standard working hours as it enters and exits the site. Please drive cautiously in the area, as both approaches to the construction site entrance have limited visibility.
