From City Police:
City Council, City Government, and the Police Department are focused on enhancing pedestrian safety throughout the City. One way to achieve this mission is by lowering speed limits where warranted and legally permissible. In May, City Council voted to reduce the speed in the City’s Downtown district, which sees high pedestrian volume throughout the year. Effective July 1, 2022, the speed limit on the following road segments will be reduced from 25 to 20 MPH:
• Sophia Street between Lafayette Boulevard and Amelia Street
• Caroline Street between Lafayette Boulevard and Lewis Street
• William Street between Washington Avenue and Sophia Street
• Lafayette Street between Sophia Street and Prince Edward Stree
