The right lane of Interstate 95 southbound in Fredericksburg has reopened in the local travel lanes just south of the Rappahannock River bridge after crews completed an emergency maintenance repair at mile marker 131 to address erosion.
After closing the travel lane on May 9, crews removed the guardrail, compacted the eroded area with stone, covered it with geotechnical matting, and shored it up further with rip rap. New guardrail was installed and the interstate shoulder was restored.
Six southbound travel lanes are now open on I-95 in this area, with new capacity recently added by the I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing project. Three southbound travel lanes are open in the local travel lanes between exit 133 (Route 17) in Stafford County and exit 130. Three southbound travel lanes are open in the through travel lanes between these interchanges.
The area just repaired was part of the previous I-95 general purpose lanes.
