From the City of Fredericksburg:
Crews have been working 24-hours a day since early on Monday to plow and treat roadways. We are preparing for additional snow in
the range of 2 -4 inches tonight starting after 11pm and lasting through daybreak. With this storm there will be periods of high winds and extremely frigid temperatures on Friday late afternoon and into the overnight. This will of course impact the continued cleanup of this past
Monday’s storm.
Tree limb removal and snow removal will begin at 9pm tonight in the downtown business area. This work will continue through Saturday as needed. Streets impacted will be the 500-1000 blocks of Princess Anne and Caroline Street, 200 of Amelia Street, 100-500 blocks of William.
We are asking residents to move their cars for the machinery to access these areas. No parking signs were placed yesterday in the area.
Dominion Energy is continuing to work 24/7 to restore power to roughly 126 city addresses (down from 4,000 on Monday) still without power. As their restoration and assessment efforts have progressed, they have identified significant additional damages in some areas and access
challenges that will extend their restoration efforts in some areas of our region. They are proactively communicating with customers whose restoration estimate is being extended.
Curbside trash and recycling is canceled for the remainder of the week. Next week, excess bagged trash will be accepted.
City residents who are in need of emergency shelter due to power outage, please call (540) 373-3122 choose option 2 and ask to speak to the on-call Social Services representative.
General District Court and Clerk’s Office will be closed on Friday, January 7. All cases will be rescheduled. Please visit vacourts.gov to make a payment or view case information.
FRED Transit will start service tomorrow at 9:30am with – City Routes – F1, F2, F2, F4, F5 and at10:00am – County Routes – D1, D2, D3/D5, D4, S1, S4/S5 follow ridefred.com for any updates. Please use caution in the parks and on the trails due to icy and snowy conditions and downed, damaged trees and limbs. Cleanup efforts will next week in these areas.
