From Spotsylvania Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management:
Just before 7:30am on Christmas Eve, crews were dispatched a reported residential structure fire in the 10600-block of Mockingbird Ln. When the first units arrived moments later, they found smoke and flames showing from the first floor, which was about 50% involved with fire. Seven occupants had exited the home prior to our arrival.
The crews evaluated and began to provide emergency medical care to them, while other crews worked to quickly bring the fire under control. Four occupants were transported for further care; two of which were flown to the VCU Burn Center for more definitive and specialized care.
The cause of the fire is being investigated, but initial reports from the occupants make us believe it may have started with the Christmas tree. Please be sure to water your tree daily, and use only UL approved lights in good condition.
