A Spotsylvania man has been charged with first-degree murder.

The Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office says late Sunday morning, the Spotsylvania County 911 Center received a call from a female who advised that a child of family friend called her advising their mother was fighting with her boyfriend. It was reported that two children ages 4 and 8 would be in the home.

Major Troy Skebo says deputies conducted a welfare check at the residence located in the 11000 block of Taney Drive. Deputies entered the townhouse and located a deceased female with upper body trauma. There was no one else found in the home. Deputies and Detectives quickly patrolled the area looking for the children and suspect. A Detective spotted the children with the suspect in the woods behind Courthouse Elementary School off of Courthouse Road. When the Detective approached the suspect he took off with the kids in the tree line. Detectives located the unharmed children in the Crown Grant subdivision after they had been abandoned by the suspect.

Skebo says additional resources were focused in the area and the suspect was spotted by a Deputy exiting the woods in the 9700 block of Leavells Rd getting into a car. A high risk traffic stop was conducted and the suspect was taken into custody without incident.

The deceased was identified as Jordan Diggins thirty-three years of age from Spotsylvania. Charged with her murder was Chris Lee-Thompson Stevens twenty-eight years of age from Spotsylvania. Stevens was charged with First Degree Murder, two counts of Abduction and violation of a protective order. He was incarcerated at Rappahannock Regional Jail under no bond.

The Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office had two homicides over the weekend.
