From Fredericksburg City Police:

Due to Virginia State legislation changes to marijuana laws, K-9 Lex can no longer continue narcotics detection work for our agency or any law enforcement agency in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The Fredericksburg Police K-9 Unit searched for an agency needing a K-9 where Lex would be fully utilized and continue his impressive career. At just five years old, he is far from ready to retire. After careful consideration, the Fredericksburg Police Department confidently donated K-9 Lex to the Richland Police Department in Georgia. His new handler, Sergeant McDonald, is an experienced K-9 handler who has been without a dog for over two years. She is eager to begin working with her new partner. While it’s hard to see K-9 Lex leave our agency, we are excited about his future and happy knowing he will continue his noteworthy career.
Here is are a few highlights of K-9 Lex’s career with our agency. K-9 Lex had 381 deployments, 15 no-force apprehensions (suspect surrendered because of his presence), and seven successful finds on human tracks for suspects in various crimes. He assisted in seizing over 20 ounces of illegal drugs – nearly nine of which were meth and almost one of heroin. He assisted in seizing three illegal firearms.
Lex is trained in obedience, agility, criminal apprehension, human tracking, building searches, area searches, evidence searches, and narcotics detection.
On behalf of the Department, we wish you the best of luck in your next chapter, Lex!!
