The Stafford Sheriff’s Office says a 15 year old girl was injured Tuesday morning when she was hit by a vehicle as she tried to cross Leeland Road to Amherst Avenue to get a ride to school with a friend.

Spokeswoman Sarah Mahoney said the student stepped into the path of a Ford Focus which was travelling southbound on Leeland Road.  The driver of the Focus stopped at the scene and contacted 911. The student was transported to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. No charges are being placed for this accident.

The roadway was closed for approximately an hour and a half while the scene was processed.
