I-95 Northbound and Southbound

Exit 118 (Thornburg)

Monday – Tuesday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Alternating, single lane closures for bridge inspection of the Mudd Tavern Road overpass.

 

Exit 126 (Spotsylvania)

Wednesday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Alternating, single lane closures near the interchange for bridge inspection of the Route 208 (Courthouse Road) overpass.

 

I-95 Northbound

 

Exit 104 (Carmel Church) to Exit 110 (Ladysmith)

Monday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Mobile operation with double lane closures for milling and paving the travel lanes at mile markers 106 to 108.

 

Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) FULL TRAFFIC STOPS

Thursday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Single northbound lane closure south of Exit 136 at mile marker 135 starts at 9 p.m. followed by double lane closures at 10 p.m. for construction activities associated with the Improve95 projects. Between midnight and 3 a.m., crews will intermittently stop all I-95 northbound traffic up to 30 minutes at a time. Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control. All northbound lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 13.

 

Exit 140 (Courthouse Road)

Monday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 4:30  a.m. and Friday – Saturday, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m. Single northbound lane closure near the interchange for Improve 95 projects.

 

Exit 148 (Quantico)

Monday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 4:30  a.m. and Friday – Saturday, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m. Single northbound lane closure starting at 9 p.m. followed by double lane closures each evening except for Friday, Aug. 13 near the interchange for Improve 95 projects. All northbound lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m.

 

I-95 Southbound

 

Exit 148 (Quantico)

Monday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m. Thursday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. and Friday – Saturday, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m. Single lane closure starting at 9 p.m. followed by double lane closures at 10 p.m. each evening except for Friday, Aug. 13. Double lane closures will end by 5 a.m. the following morning and a single southbound lane will remain closed until 10 a.m. except on Fridays. The work zone is needed for construction activities for Improve95 projects south of the interchange at mile markers 147-145.

 

Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) to Exit 133 (Route 17)

Wednesday – Thursday, 6 a.m. – 10 a.m. Mobile single lane closure for construction activities associated with the Improve95 projects.

 

Exit 130 (Route 3)

Route 1 Southbound

Monday Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Single southbound lane closure for Potomac Creek bridge replacement, between Potomac Creek Lane and Centreport Parkway intersection.

 

Route 17 Northbound

Sunday Thursday, 8:30 p.m. – 5 a.m. Mobile overnight operation with single lane closure on Route 17 northbound between Gateway Boulevard and Hartwood Church Road. Drivers may experience a temporary rough driving surface until crews apply new asphalt to the milled surface. Delays are possible near the mobile work zone.

 

Route 17 Northbound

Monday Wednesday, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. Mobile daytime operation with single lane closure on Route 17 northbound between Hartwood Church Road and the Fauquier County line. Drivers may experience a temporary rough driving surface until crews apply new asphalt to the milled surface. Delays are possible near the mobile work zone.

 

Road Resurfacing

Monday – Tuesday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Drivers should expect alternating single lane closures and flagging operations on the following routes for surface treatment. Flaggers will direct drivers through each work zone.

Route 3 Eastbound

Route 617 (Hams Ford Road)

Monday – Friday, 6 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Pothole patching. Watch for mobile single lane closures.

Plantation Forest Drive

Monday – Tuesday, 7 a.m. – 4 p.m. Crews will be replacing drainage pipes on Plantation Forest Drive at Daniels Court. Expect brief delays or a detour.

 

Pavement Markings

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Mobile operation with single lane closures on the following routes to allow crews to apply pavement markings:

Route 618 (Alps Road)

Monday – Thursday, 7 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Brush removal. Watch for mobile single lane closures.

 

Pavement Markings

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Mobile operation with single lane closures on the following routes to allow crews to apply pavement markings:

Drainage Pipe Replacements

Wednesday, 7 a.m. – 4 p.m. Crews will be replacing drainage pipes on Jeter Road at Sparta Road. Expect brief delays or a detour.

 

Essex County

 

Route 360

Wednesday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Mobile operation with single lane closures on Route 360 near the King and Queen County line and Aviation Lane to allow crews to apply pavement markings.

 

Route 17 at Tappahannock

Sunday – Thursday, 7 p.m. – 5 a.m. Single lane closure on Route 17 and Route 17/360 northbound and southbound between the Hoskins Creek Bridge and Mt. Landing Creek Bridge. Milling and paving. Also, crews will be working on a short section of Rt. 360 between Cross Street and the Downing Bridge.

 

Gloucester County

 

Route 3

Monday – Wednesday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Mobile single lane closures on Route 3 between Indian Road and Main Street to allow crews to apply pavement markings.

 

Route 17

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Mobile single lane closures on Route 17 between Davenport Road and Adner Road for milling and paving. Drivers may experience a temporary rough driving surface until crews apply new asphalt to the milled surface. Delays are possible near the mobile work zone.

 

Bridge Washing Operation

Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Mobile single lane closures or flagging operations on various routes for bridge washing. Be alert to mobile work zones at the following bridges:

 

  • Route 616 (Roaring Spring Road) between Kimberly Drive and Main Street

Caroline County

 

Route 17 Emergency Repair

An emergency repair project is underway on Route 17 (Tidewater Trail) in Caroline County between Mount Road and Ware Creek Road to stabilize an adjacent slope and drainage pipe underneath the road. Route 17 is open to traffic, but motorists can expect one-way, alternating traffic controlled by a temporary traffic signal, or intermittent direction by a flagging crew. There is no vehicle height or width restriction in the work zone, and vehicles of all legal loads may pass through this area. Repairs are anticipated to be complete in late Aug. 2021.

Route 207 Southbound Bridge Replacement

Route 207 is reduced to a single northbound and southbound lane at the bridge over the Mattaponi River. Traffic is traveling in the northbound lanes while the southbound bridge is closed for a replacement project. The new southbound bridge is anticipated to open to traffic in Sept. 2021.

 

Route 743 (Clifton Road) over South River

Construction began in December 2020 to replace a structurally deficient timber bridge on Clifton Road over the South River. The existing bridge is open during construction. The new bridge will be a concrete structure, and will allow heavier vehicles to cross. The new bridge is scheduled to open in Oct. 2021.

 

City of Fredericksburg

 

Route 3 Business at Chatham Bridge

The Chatham Bridge is closed to traffic for an improvement project. Drivers should follow the posted detour signs directing traffic around the bridge closure. The bridge will reopen to traffic in Oct. 2021, and all construction work will be complete by April 2022.

 

Gloucester County

 

Pedestrian Improvements at Route 17 and Route 17 Business (Main Street)

Construction is substantially complete on a project to build sidewalk, crosswalks, pedestrian refuge islands, and new pedestrian crossing equipment at the northern intersection of Route 17 and Route 17 Business, and at Route 17 and McFadden Way. Pedestrian crossing signal equipment scheduled to be installed in summer 2021.

 

Gloucester County and Middlesex County

 

Route 17 Southbound over Dragon Run

Route 17 southbound is reduced to a single lane for a bridge rehabilitation project over Dragon Run. The bridge is located at the county line between Gloucester County and Middlesex County. Project estimated completion is Aug. 2021.

 

King George County

 

Route 301 Slope Repair

Route 301 southbound near Route 616 (Washington Mill Road) has been reduced to one lane in King George County for motorist safety due to the failure of an adjacent slope. An emergency repair is underway. The lane is anticipated to reopen by early Aug. 2021.

 

Middlesex County

 

Route 625 (Barrick’s Mill Road) Bridge Replacement

A portion of Barrick’s Mill Road is closed to traffic at Mill Creek through September 2021 while crews replace the existing bridge over Barrick’s Mill Creek. Drivers on Barrick’s Mill Road will be detoured around the 24-hour road closure using the following routes:

Route 624 (Regent Road)

 

Richmond County

 

Route 637 (County Bridge Road)

County Bridge Road is closed to through traffic at the bridge over Cat Point Creek due to damage following heavy rain and flooding on June 11. A timeline to restore and reopen the road is still under development.

 

Stafford County

 

Route 1 at Potomac Creek

Construction is underway to replace the Route 1 bridge over Potomac Creek in Stafford County. Route 1 will continue to have four travel lanes open during the project, with only periodic single lane closures required. The new bridge will be complete in July 2022.

 

Spotsylvania County

 

Route 17 Overpass Replacement and Widening

Construction started in December 2020 on a project to replace the existing two-lane interstate overpass on Route 17 with a four-lane bridge. Route 17 will be widened to four travel lanes to just east of the Hospital Boulevard/Germanna Point Drive intersection. Sidewalk, a shared-use path, and pedestrian crossing equipment will be added as part of the project. Improvements will be completed in Feb. 2024.

 

Town of West Point and New Kent County

 

Route 30/33 (Eltham Bridge)

Eastbound single lane closure on Eltham Bridge, with work zone barrier. Single lane closure is in place. Crews are identifying locations where a future project will repair grout on the bridge.

 

Westmoreland County

 

Route 3 Passing Lanes

Construction began Jan. 4 on a project to build eastbound and westbound passing lanes over a 1.5-mile segment of Route 3. When work is complete, Route 3 will become a four-lane undivided road from north of Route 639 (Winter Harbor Road) to east of Route 624 (Longwood Road), with new turn lanes at key intersections. The project will be complete in late Dec. 2021.
