There’s a Fredericksburg area transportation survey

From FAMPO:

The Fredericksburg Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (FAMPO) just released a new survey, The Transportation Improvements Survey, which will allow the community to provide information that will be used by FAMPO transportation planners to identify shortcomings of the current transportation system and suggest improvements to decision-makers. For those who fume about commuting options, Route 3, Route 17, or I-95 congestion and roadway designs, this is their opportunity to have their concerns documented and heard by decision-makers and transportation planners.

The survey collects information from those that live in the Fredericksburg metropolitan region and regularly travel to work, college, or a volunteer job. Survey participants are asked a series of questions to determine habitual travel patterns, common travel issues, attitudes on using public transportation, and more. This is the public’s opportunity to convey exactly why they do not take public transportation and which areas in the community they struggle to access, and why.

The anonymous survey also asks participants to indicate their approximate home and travel location so that planners can find commonalities among neighborhoods or certain portions of a county or the city. This level of analysis is helpful because, for example, planners could find that some neighborhoods may prioritize public transportation expansion while others do not, or some areas may have very specific challenges that need to be prioritized. Imagine how helpful that information could be when considering bus and rail service expansion or widening of roads. Because of the need to sort survey answers based on geographic locations, participants must take the survey online, https://arcg.is/1i0myu The survey will be open through June.

What is FAMPO and why are they soliciting responses from the community? The Fredericksburg Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (FAMPO) is a regional public body that serves as a forum where members of the public, elected officials, and transportation professionals come together to address transportation issues that impact the City of Fredericksburg, and counties of Stafford and Spotsylvania. The public has a foundational role in the transportation planning process. In order create useful transportation plans, planners and elected officials need to learn about the public’s transportation challenges and goals.
