City, Stafford, King George and Caroline form COVID-19 mutual aid agreement

by | Apr 3, 2020 | Government

Fredericksburg, Stafford, King George and Caroline have entered into a Regional Joint Emergency Agreement for extending mutual aid support between our localities during the COVID-19 health crisis.

The County Administrators/City Manager for each jurisdiction have entered into a Regional Joint Emergency Agreement. This action permits the coordination of response activities to share resources and help plan for, prevent, or respond to disaster in our region. The governing body of each locality has approved participation in the Statewide Mutual Aid (SMA) program, which may be implemented at any time by a member locality administratively through an event agreement. This Regional Joint Emergency Agreement applies and supplements the provisions of the SMA Guidebook between the member jurisdictions in response to the declarations of local state of emergency for the COVID-19 health crisis.

Ongoing mutual aid agreements for emergency services and public safety, such as assisting with calls like a vehicle crash or house fire, remain in place. This action extends mutual aid agreements to call on regional localities for assistance on services such as information technology, building officials, animal control, or other services that are not in standard public safety mutual aid agreements. In a time of crisis, it is crucial to enhance regional participation while at the same time protecting each jurisdiction’s ability to care for their communities.
