From Spotsylvania County government:
On Saturday, 10/26/19, an engagement ring belonging to Ana Barerra was flushed down a toilet by a small child at a home in the county. Barrera and fiance Nelson Rios contacted a local plumber who, despite several hours of trying, was unable to locate the ring Sunday. Barerra and Rios contacted Angel Rose with the county’s Utilities Department Monday and a crew consisting of Patrick Stambaugh, William Donovan, and Stephen Trigg was dispatched the following day.
The crew was able to locate the ring and return it to Barrera, who writes in an email, “You could only imagine the amount of tears that were shed. It was definitely like getting proposed to all over again!!! I cannot thank you all for the amount of effort and incredible commitment that went into finding a ring that belonged to someone they didn’t know, they didn’t give to or receive. Although they could have given up after an hour, they knew the meaning behind the ring and were committed to finding this ring.”
Rios also reached out to the county via email: “I understand that many people came together to help although the chances of finding the ring were very slim. Thank you all very much for all your help, words cannot describe how appreciative we are.” Best wishes to the happy couple! What a story they will have to tell at their wedding and for years to come!
