Stafford-based Cooking Autism is awarding two scholarships to area educators and supplying programs for 52 local special ed classes, impacting over 350 students with autism or other neurological challenges.
A $1,000 scholarship goes to Megan Siegfried of Caroline to further her goals towards her master’s degree in special education.
Megan began volunteering to help her special needs community when she worked with ARC during her high school years. After teaching students with intellectual disabilities for four years, she is now an early childhood special educator whose passion is to help with language development.
She is currently working towards her master’s degree in special education.
A second $1,000 scholarship goes to Sandra Willet of Spotsylvania County Public Schools to further her special education degree.
Sandra currently holds a Bachelors of Science in Early Childhood/Elementary Education. After working as a paraprofessional in an autism classroom, she states “I knew this was the field that I was meant to be in”. Sandra is a student at UVA working toward finishing her special education degree as she serves at a provisional special educator at Harrison Road Elementary School, working in the same classroom where she served as a paraprofessional for seven years.
