Morton’s Ford + Moonshine Trolley Tour
Saturday April 21 12:30-4:30 pm
Historic Train Depot, 111 South Commerce St
The Battle of Morton’s Ford, though it was really more of a large skirmish, was the brainchild of General Benjamin Butler. Join us on this tour, where historian Clark “Bud” Hall will lead you through the footsteps of the 8,000 soldiers that engaged in the Battle. You will visit seven observation points while aboard the trolley, disembarking twice. The first of which is Struan Plantation (1830), where you will tour the pristine grounds of this antebellum home, the same grounds the Federal’s crossed during their attack towards Morton’s.
Your second ground tour will be the Confederate Troop location at the battle of Morton’s Ford. This is the first ever public tour of this untouched outstanding battlefield. From here we head north to visit Belmont Farms Distillery.
Belmont Farms offers grain to glass perfection. Here you will meet Chuck and Jeannette Miller, and learn how they have preserved the art of copper pot distilling. You will also taste six varieties of Virginia’s finest moonshine.
The trolley will then return to the Historic Train Depot.
$30
