From Stafford County Schools
Edward E. Drew, Jr. Middle School is pleased to announce that three of its 8th grade students
received the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) Outstanding Achievement Award for the 2016-2017 school
year. The three award recipients are Jack Spinnanger, McKenna Stine, and Liam Zinn.
Jack, McKenna, and Liam were selected as three of 500 recipients
of the Outstanding Achievement Award this year from NJHS
Chapters nationwide. They are the only Stafford County Public
Schools (SCPS) students to receive the award. This is the second
year NJHS members at Edward E. Drew, Jr. Middle School received
this award in the two year existence of the award program. This
award is given to members of NJHS who demonstrate outstanding
performance in the five pillars of the NJHS: Scholarship, Service,
Leadership, Character, and Citizenship.
Jack, McKenna, and Liam received recognition for their achievements at the annual Edward E. Drew, Jr. Middle
School Awards Day ceremonies with the presentation of the award medallion and certificate. They were also
recognized by the SCPS School Board at its June 13 meeting. In addition to receiving recognition as Outstanding
Achievement Award winners, they each received a $500 college savings fund award.
Jeremy B. Utt, NBCT, NJHS Chapter Adviser said, “The three award winners exemplify the ideals of the National
Junior Honor Society’s five pillars, and truly are assets to the community.” According to the school’s principal,
Dr. Tammara Hanna, “While we are always proud of our Rams and their accomplishments, we are especially
thrilled when their talents are recognized on the national level. Liam, Jack and McKenna are all stellar students
who represent our school, community, and families with the highest character and effort.”
The NJHS is a program of the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP). Students at
Edward E. Drew, Jr. Middle School can be inducted into membership in the Spring semester of their 7th or 8th
grade year if they meet the Chapter’s membership requirements.
