The exhibition will be on view through May 21, and is included with museum admission.
“The selection of 21 photos by 12 artists was chosen by Belmont Director David Berreth, to represent a variety of photographic approaches to visually interpreting the 19th century estate and its surroundings,” said Michelle Crow-Dolby, education and communications manager.
The new exhibition follows the theme of last year’s first Belmont Portrayed exhibition, which featured traditional painting media.
The public is invited to vote in the gallery for their favorite work, to determine cash awards. Three people’s choice winners will be announced during the last week of the show.
Gari Melchers Home and Studio at Belmont is located at 224 Washington St. in Falmouth, Virginia.
Melchers was a twentieth century American artist who earned critical praise. His other achievements include serving on the Virginia Art Commission, chairing the Smithsonian Commission to Establish a National Gallery of Art (today’s Smithsonian American Art Museum), and service as a trustee of the Corcoran Gallery of Art.
Gari Melchers Home and Studio is a National Historic Landmark, and one of just 30 of America’s most significant artists’ spaces included in the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s Historic Artists’ Homes and Studios consortium.
