The Fredericksburg Chapter of Virginia Organizing held a demonstration in support of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and health care for all people on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017, in downtown Fredericksburg.
In Riverfront Park, community members shared stories about how the Affordable Care Act has improved their lives and benefited their families. Many carried signs urging Congress to improve the existing plan, not repeal it.
“Virginia Organizing believes Congress needs to expand access to affordable health care to all people, improve the current health care law to reduce premium, deductible, and prescription drug costs, and provide greater access to more doctors and hospitals,” said Virginia Organizing Board Member and Fredericksburg Chapter Leader Duane Edwards.
“More than 400,000 Virginians have enrolled in ACA health insurance, with 67 percent having monthly premiums below $75,” said Fredericksburg Chapter Leader Bill Botts. “Local Virginians have six insurers offering 34 different plans with quality of coverage assured by a 10-point minimum essential coverage requirement. Our U.S. Representative Rob Wittman says the ACA is not working because of lack of choice, quality, and affordability, but these statements don’t line up with the facts.”
