Dolley Madison’s 248th Birthday at Montpelier

Montpelier, home to President James Madison and First Lady Dolley Madison, is Celebrating the anniversary of Dolley Madison’s birthday with special tours and cupcakes. Per Montpelier tradition, those named Dolley receives complimentary admission.

Historic Fredericksburg Foundation Preservation Tour
Saturday, May 21, 10 a.m.
Downtown Fredericksburg – the meeting location will be given when tour fee is paid.
This new walking tour of about one mile will look at some of the victories of historic preservation. Some building locations include steps.
Reserve your spot by calling 540-371-4504 or purchasing online. All reservations must be paid in advance of the tour.
$10 for HFFI members/ $15 for non-members

4th Annual Gordonsville Famous Fried Chicken Festival

Fairgrounds on East Baker Street, Gordonsville, Va., 22942
Gordonsville is famous for its fried chicken, which was served to passengers of trains stopping in town during the late 19th and early 20th centuries by local women carrying platters of the delicacy on their heads. Nationally-known at that time, Gordonsville’s fried chicken earned the town the nickname of “chicken-leg center of the universe”. Today, the Cooper family holds the secret recipe for Gordonsville’s famous fried chicken.

Chick-Fil-A and the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office are sponsoring this event, presenting corporate, government and private agencies and services offering a multitude of assistance and information for service members and their families. Free chick-Fil-A entree’s offered to military veterans, current military and their families. Just show your military I.D.

American Girl Doll Tea Party
Saturday, May 21, 1 – 3 p.m.
Rising Sun Tavern, 1304 Caroline St., downtown Fredericksburg, Va.
Bring your American Girl Doll to this historic property for a tea party. Built by George Washington’s youngest brother Charles in about 1760, the home became a tavern in 1792. It’s now owned by Washington Heritage Museums.
$10 adults, $5 youth.

Lewis Store Spring Clean-up

The Lewis Store (Historic Fredericksburg Foundation, Inc., headquarters), 1200 Caroline St., downtown Fredericksburg, Va.
Grab your buckets, rakes, and scrub brushes — it’s time to show the Lewis Store some love. Snack donations also accepted in lieu of elbow grease.
