The trial of Steven Vander Briel for the murder of Grace Rebecca Mann begins in Fredericksburg Circuit Court on Monday, May 2, 2016. Briel’s defense attorney Mark Gardner told the court last week he plans to pursue an insanity defense.
Briel, 31, is accused of killing the 20-year-old University of Mary Washington student on Friday, April 17, 2015, in the Fredericksburg home she shared with him and two other roommates. He faces charges of first-degree murder, abduction, and strangulation. He has pleaded not guilty on all three matters.
