Andie McConnell Receives 2015 Laurie A. Wideman Award
Andie McConnell, executive director of the Fairy Godmother Project, received the 2015 Laurie A. Wideman Award from the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce Network of Enterprising Women (CNEW). The award recognizes a female member of the chamber who is “marked by an independent, energetic spirit as well as readiness to act in business and in the community, who demonstrates great passion for the quality of life in our region, and who leads with values of the highest level of integrity and honesty.” Pictured are (L to R) CNEW Chairwoman Martha Hutzel, Andie McConnell and Chamber President and CEO Susan Spears.

Mercantile Named a Virginia Best New Restaurant
Mercantile, located at 205 William St. in downtown Fredericksburg, was named one of the 25 best new restaurants of 2015 in Virginia, by the Virginia Department of Tourism. Located at at 205 William St. in downtown Fredericksburg, it’s the second restaurant for local entrepreneurs Joy Crump and Beth Black, who also own FOODE. In its list “25 Restaurants That Satisfied Our Appetites In 2015,” Mercantile was included for its “refined spin on traditional southern cuisine.”

UMW Ranked Among Most Tech Advanced, Most Affordable Colleges
The University of Mary Washington was ranked 20th on the list of the “50 Most Technologically Advanced Small Colleges” by The Best Colleges Online 2015, according to a university press release. The Best Colleges Online considered technology awards, progressive science and technology degrees offered, and advanced campus technology offerings. UMW was the only Virginia school on the list and was recognized for its Hurley Convergence Center.

In addition, the College Affordability Guide recognized UMW as “Virginia’s most affordable college” and rated 13 of its academic programs as the most affordable degrees in the country. The College Affordability Guide considers cost for average and low-income students and program credit flexibility, among other metrics.

LifeCare Receives Excellence Award
LifeCare Medical Transports Inc. of Stafford County was recognized by the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services as an “Agency of Excellence” at the Virginia EMS Symposium. Lifecare was the only medical transport service to receive this award.

Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer Welcomes New Broker
Thomas Raines has joined the Fredericksburg office of Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer. He will focus on commercial property sales and leasing. A 2009 graduate of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Raines is a current member of the 459th Air Refueling Squadron at Joint Base Andrews as a traditional Air Force Reservist, and recently returned from serving in Operation Enduring Freedom in Qatar.

Fredericksburg Regional Chamber Offers QuickBooks FAQ’s Seminar
The Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce is offering a QuickBooks most “Frequently Asked Questions” seminar from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2016.
