Dave Carey, co-founder and president of ROI Training, will speak at the University of Mary Washington (UMW) on how businesses can hire and retain the right talent.
The lecture and reception will be held from 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, in University Hall on UMW’s Stafford campus, 121 University Blvd., Fredericksburg. The public may attend for free, but pre-registration is required.
Named the College of Business’ Executive-in-Residence, Carey will discuss the benefits of hiring from a liberal arts school and touch on tips for working with Millennials. Free and open to the public, the lecture will take place in the North building of the Stafford campus at 6 p.m. Registration is required.
“It is essential to know how to work with Millennials, especially if you are from an earlier generation” said Lynne Richardson, dean of the College of Business. “You need to understand what they value and how they like to work in order to advance your organization’s initiatives.”
With 18 years of experience in the training industry, Carey knows just how to connect with Millennials in the work place.
“Millennials thrive in a collaborative environment,” said Carey, who graduated from UMW in 1996. “They are so comfortable with technology because it has always been a part of their life.”
Carey has spent the past 12 years with ROI Training, based in New York City and Lexington, Mass., where he works one-on-one with several of the world’s leading technology and financial firms. He also is a member of several global and national training organizations.
At UMW, Carey is the chair of UMW’s College of Business Advisory Board, a position that he has held since March 2013. Carey also funds a UMW Business Scholar, a program which attracts high achieving high school graduates that intend to major in business with a four-year scholarship.
