Fredericksburg Agricultural Fair: Sites, Sounds and Tastes of Summer
July 31 – August 9
Founded in 1738, Fredericksburg Agricultural Fair is the oldest fair in the United States. Celebrate traditional fair events, contests, entertainment, food and fun for the whole family. Monster Truck Show on opening night.
General admission:
Age three and under are free.
Ages 4 to 59, admission is $8.
Ages 60 and older, admission is $6.
Saturday, Aug. 1, is “Military Appreciation Day.” One (1) complimentary daily admission ticket on August 1, with a valid military ID.
Tuesday, Aug. 4, is “Half Off Tuesday.” All general admission tickets are $4.
Music on the Steps 2015 Schedule
Central Rappahannock Regional Library Headquarters Branch, 1201 Caroline St., Fredericksburg
Central Rappahannock Regional Library (CRRL) is celebrating 30 years of Music on the Steps. The free concerts are held from 7 to 8 p.m. Mondays.

See how baseball was played during the Civil War as vintage teams play on the Manassas Museum lawn, 9101 Prince William St., Manassas. Towne ball will be one of many activities in Old Town Manassas during the annual National Night Out. All events are free.

Summer Performances for Young Children Presents Footworks

Footworks conveys the joy of dance while illuminating the historical and multicultural perspectives of American percussive dances.

2nd Annual Emerging Civil War Symposium
August 7 – 9
Stevenson Ridge, 6901 Meeting St., Spotsylvania
Registration includes a Friday night round table discussion, including hors d’oeuvres; lectures, lunch, and author book signings on Saturday, with a tour of Chancellorsville Battlefield on Sunday including newly preserved property on Stonewall Jackson’s flank attack. Topics will include the 1865 surrenders, Lincoln assassination, battlefield preservation and the legacy of the American Civil War. This year’s keynote speaker is Dana Shoaf, editor of Civil War Times.

4th Annual Edible Food Fest in Orange
Saturday, August 8, 2015, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
The family-friendly celebration of the farm to table movement and its unique roots in Central Virginia includes demonstrations by the region’s leading chefs, expert talks on farm to table topics, live music and more.
Downtown Orange Virginia.
Tickets are $7. Children 12 and under are free.
Astronomy and Night Sky Summer Series
NASA Wallops Flight Facility Visitor Center, Route 175, Wallops, Va.
Thursdays, August 13 and August 27, 7:30 – 9:30 p.m.
The event begins with an Astronomy 101 presentation at the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge Herbert H. Bateman Education Center Auditorium, 8231 Beach Rd, Chincoteague Island, Va. followed by night sky observations through telescopes and binoculars at the north end of the beach parking lot #1.
The Perseid meteor shower will be the focus of the August 13 event, when it is at its peak.
The event is free and open to the public. The presentation will occur regardless of weather, however, the telescope viewing is subject to cancellation due to inclement weather. Park entrance fees apply.
Big O Boogie at Skydive Orange

Stafford Songfest Sunday
Sunday, August 16, 3 – 5 p.m.
The English Channel, a 60’s cover band, will perform on Celebration Stage at John Lee Pratt Memorial Park, 120 River Rd, Fredericksburg.
Admission is $10 per car. Bring a picnic or purchase food from the concessions will be available. Concerts will be held rain or shine.
Quantico Tri
Saturday, August 22, 7 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Marine Corps Base Quantico, 3017 Russell Rd., Quantico, Va.
Compete in three events: a 750 meter open water swim, a 20K (12.4) mile bicycle tour of the Marine Corps Base, and a 5K run.
The $95 registration fee includes a technical participant shirt, finisher medal, event timing, and a ticket to the pre-event pasta dinner and informational session.
Packet pick-up will be conducted from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Friday, August 21. All participants are required to pick up event packets on this date.
Lake Anna Sunset Concert Series

Anthem Moonlight Ride

Sports Backers Stadium, 100 Avenue of Champions, Richmond
With a Full Moon (15-mile) course and a Half Moon (8-mile) option, Moonlight Ride feature well-stocked rest stops on Monument Avenue and in Bryan Park. Upon finishing your ride back at Sports Backers Stadium, celebrate at the Agee’s Post-Ride Party with live music. Enjoy a complimentary slice of pizza, ice cream and soft drink or Sierra Nevada beer (bring your ID) while you enjoy the concert. Dress up as your favorite character or decorate your bike with tacky lights. Prizes awarded.
Registration ranges from $10 – $50.
Patrick Henry Half Marathon

Featuring 13.1 miles of rolling countryside and scenic historic districts with a start and finish on the beautiful campus of Randolph-Macon College.

Gari Melchers Home and Studio Woodland Hike
Sunday, August 30, 2 – 3 p.m.
Gari Melchers Home and Studio at Belmont, 224 Washington St., Falmouth, Va.
Members of the Central Rappahannock Chapter of the Virginia Master Naturalist program lead the walking tour of the woods and fields at Belmont. The walk will cover about one mile of trails, and will touch on the historic ruins that illustrate Belmont’s past.
