The National Bank Building property in downtown Fredericksburg has been listed for sale by sealed bid, with a call for offers deadline of February 27, 2015.
The Federal style building at 900 Princess Anne St. ended nearly 194 years of service as a financial institution when PNC Financial Services closed the location in November 2014. The 0.541 acre property with 22 parking spaces is zoned Commercial Downtown (CD), which allows many by-right uses, the realtors said.
Originally built in 1820, the structure is 6,410 square feet on two floors with a full basement. There are brick walls and chimneys, sandstone details, a slate roof and wood-framed windows. The building features three private offices, two large boardrooms, a vault room and an employee lounge. Other improvements include three covered drive-thru teller lanes and the opportunity for a walk-up ATM.
The building is on the National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Landmarks Register. U.S. President Abraham Lincoln and Confederate President Jefferson Davis both spoke from the bank building’s steps during the Civil War. Union troops used the building as a headquarters during the war.
