At 9:15 a.m. the Masons will lead a public procession to the statue of Hugh Mercer on Washington Street, where J. Robert DuBois will offer a Memorial Day oration in recognition of all who gave their lives for the United States. DuBois is a retired Navy SEAL and founder/CEO of SEAL of Peace Consulting.
Trolley Tours of Fredericksburg will provide transportation from the cemetery to the Hugh Mercer statue and back, for those who are physically unable to march.
In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will take place in the Masonic Lodge Fellowship Hall at 803 Princess Anne St. — Hanover Street entrance.
The Fredericksburg Masonic Lodge dates back to September 1, 1752. Historic members include George Washington, Hugh Mercer and James Monroe. The Lodge’s Masonic Cemetery is the oldest in the Americas.
