Local Giving On #GivingTuesday [Video]

by | May 21, 2015 | Non-Profits

Our National Thanksgiving holiday has morphed into a long weekend of consumer days, with Grey Thursday, Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday. Some people are pushing back.

In 2012, the United Nations Foundation and the 92nd Street Y designated the Tuesday after Thanksgiving as a day dedicated to social giving and volunteerism. They named it #GivingTuesday.

“We have a day for giving thanks. We have two for getting deals. Now, we have #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back. On Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2014, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give.”

The Rappahannock YMCA has a #GivingTuesday program. Your donation can help provide food for the holidays to needy families, Winter Break Camp for children who would otherwise be left unsupervised at home, comfort and aid for someone experiencing a life altering event and so much more.
