The new courthouse is home to the Fredericksburg Circuit Court, the Fredericksburg General District Court and the Fredericksburg Sheriff’s Office.
The former general district court building on Princess Anne Street will be renovated for the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, which is temporarily housed in the Executive Plaza building on Caroline Street.
The circuit court was previously located in the Renwick Building at 815 Princess Anne St. Architect James Renwick Jr., who also designed the Smithsonian Institution Castle in Washington, D.C., and St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City, designed that building in 1852. The city has not yet decided what the Renwick Building will now be used for.
