Three Caroline High School carpentry students were hired recently as interns with Allan Myers, the largest heavy civil construction company and materials provider in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Allan Myers representatives visited the school’s carpentry program to speak with students about the company’s mission and its wide array of construction career opportunities. The visit culminated with three students officially accepting internship offers with Allan Myers.
They will begin working with the company, which is based in Pennsylvania, immediately after graduation.
“This is a perfect example of what happens when education and industry work together,” Caroline High Principal Tom Connolly said. “Our students are leaving Caroline High School, not only with skills, but with real world opportunities that will shape their futures.”
The visit from Allan Myers was not the only major development in the school’s Career and Technical Education program recently. The school division also announced that Sheehy Ford of Ashland and Ford Motor Company donated a vehicle to the Caroline High automotive technician training program. The official donation event will take place May 1 at CHS at noon.
The vehicle, a 2023 Ford Transit cargo van, will serve as a training vehicle for students in the automotive program. A VCMII diagnostic tool and license was also donated to the program.
“This donation is more than just a vehicle — it’s a hands-on opportunity for our students to train on modern technology and be better prepared for the workforce,” said Kristina Sanders, the work-based learning coordinator at CHS.
Sanders said the school is “grateful for the ongoing support” of Sheehy Ford of Ashland for its investment in the students and community. Sheehy sponsors the Ford Automotive Career Exploration program which connects students to training and certification opportunities. Sheehy is a supporter of the automotive program at CHS by hosting and hiring multiple students as apprentices and externs, with the goal of establishing a direct pipeline from the classroom to the workforce.
The school division is requesting local officials and community supporters attend the vehicle reveal event, which will include remarks from school and Sheehy representatives. The event will also include a tour of the automotive technology classroom and shop.
