The Virginia Department of Transportation invites the public to share feedback on existing travel conditions along Route 639 (Ladysmith Road) in Caroline County as part of a transportation study.
This STARS (Strategically Targeted Affordable Roadway Solutions) study will assess potential safety and operational improvements along Ladysmith Road between Green and Bull Church roads, primarily focusing on the Interstate 95 on/off ramp approaches at the Ladysmith Road intersection.
The purpose of the work is to address safety and congestion management needs identified within the study area. Project partners include Caroline County and the George Washington Regional Commission.
Comments received at this stage will help determine which locations along Ladysmith Road in the study area should be reviewed for potential improvements. The online survey will be open through April 9.
Through the STARS program, VDOT planners and engineers work with local planners and stakeholders to address critical safety and traffic congestion challenges at key locations throughout the state.
Draft recommendations for potential projects along Ladysmith Road will be presented to the public this summer, and residents will be able to comment on the recommendations before the plan is finalized.
The study won’t set construction dates for any improvements but will develop proposed options that localities can pursue for funding.
For anyone who prefers to share comments in writing or by email, those should be sent to Casandra Lord, VDOT Study Manager, 87 Deacon Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22405, or emailed to [email protected]. The email subject line should reference “Ladysmith Road Study in Caroline.”
Print copies of the online survey are available to be mailed to the public. To request one, residents should contact the project manager at the contact information listed above or at 804-786-2264.
