Susanna Finn, a former chair of Fredericksburg’s Planning Commission who was appointed to city council on a temporary basis earlier this spring, announced Monday that she’ll run to represent Ward 3 for a full term this fall.

“Ward 3 is home to over 7,000 hard-working people in several distinct neighborhoods,” Finn stated in a press release. “They each have a right to an equal voice in our city.”

Finn, who will serve out the remainder of former councilor Tim Duffy’s term, offered her experience in planning, as well as the fact that she is a “public school parent, HOA president and volunteer” as qualifications. She currently works as a program manager for the U.S. Navy.

Finn also cited “historic economic uncertainty” due to shifting federal policy as an issue that will affect the city and Fredericksburg region at large.

“Our Head Start school programs, housing assistance funds, regional transit programs, and nonprofit partners are at risk,” she stated. “This moment calls for proactive, pragmatic leadership. I am committed to collaborating with our community to create positive local solutions. We must focus on the impact we can have if we lead together.”

According to the release, Finn will hold a “campaign kickoff” on April 2 in College Heights. For more information, contact her campaign at [email protected].
