Stafford Fire and Rescue responded Friday afternoon just before 5 to a structure fire in the 100 block of Whitsons Run. First arriving units arrived on scene approximately 5 minutes after the call and confirmed smoke coming from the front of a two-story, single family residence. Further investigation revealed a fire in a converted, attached garage. The fire was brought under control within 15 minutes.

Fire and Rescue spokeswoman Katy Brady says the residence was occupied by a juvenile at the time, and several house pets. The juvenile was able to evacuate prior to the arrival of units, and was later transported to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation in stable condition.

The residents are being assisted by the Fire and Rescue Chaplain Team and the American Red Cross. Brady says no working smoke alarms appeared to activate at the time of the fire.

The fire is under investigation by the Stafford County Fire Marshal’s Office. Crews were assisted on scene by Quantico Fire & Emergency Services.
