Josiah Bryson rushed for four touchdowns, the last one covering 50 yards in the fourth quarter, as the Colonial Forge football team defeated Stafford 45-24 in a Region 6B quarterfinal Friday night.
Bryson’s first two scores came in the first half, helping the visiting Eagles (8-3) build a 23-10 halftime lead. He added a 1-yard touchdown plunge early in the third period to make it 30-10.
Bryson finished the contest with 116 yards on the ground.
Forge quarterback Brock Brimhall completed 13 of 18 passes for 205 yards and a score, which covered 43 yards to TaySean Jones.
Michael Creamer ran for a game-high 142 yards and a score for the Indians (9-2), who previously defeated the Eagles 35-31 on Sept. 27. Zion Gray chipped in 76 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Forge, the No. 3 seed, will visit second-seeded North Stafford in the regional semifinals next Friday.
NORTH STAFFORD 35, WOODBRIDGE 28
The host Wolverines stormed back from a 21-0 deficit to topple the Vikings in a Region 6B quarterfinal matchup.
Alon Lester rushed for a game-high three touchdowns, including the game-winner from 1 yard out with 4 seconds to play. His effort complemented that of teammate Micah Brown, who ran for 209 yards.
Woodbridge (7-4) built a 21-0 advantage in the second quarter thanks to a 53-yard scoring scamper from Marquece Sharpe, a 54-yard interception return by Bishop Prescott and a 56-yard touchdown pass from Denari Hill to James Shaw.
North (9-2) rattled off 28 straight points, starting with Chase Sullivan’s 25-yard scoring strike to Ricky Adkins just before intermission.
Lester opened the third period with a 2-yard touchdown run, and Kayden Bowens’ 9-yard score later in the stanza tied the score at 21.
Lester and Sharpe traded 1-yard scoring runs earlier in the fourth quarter, setting up Lester’s game-winner.
The Wolverines will attempt to knock off Commonwealth District rival Colonial Forge for the second time in three weeks when the teams meet in Friday’s regional semifinals. North beat Forge 27-17 to clinch the No. 2 seed in the region in the regular-season finale for both squads on Nov. 8.
REGION 5D
MASSAPONAX 21, INDEPENDENCE 20
The visiting Panthers eked out a narrow Region 5D first-round win over Independence behind 122 yards and two touchdowns on the ground from Joe Sanders.
Massaponax (2-9), which also defeated Independence (6-5) in Week 1 this season, will hit the road to play No. 2 seed Briar Woods (7-3) next Friday.
REGION 4B
KING GEORGE 26, COURTLAND 7
The host Foxes recovered a blocked punt for a touchdown, returned an interception for a score and forced four turnovers on their way to a Region 4B quarterfinal victory over the Cougars.
King George QB Dylan Koch was efficient, going 13-of-16 passing for 122 yards and a score.
Ky’Mani Carpenter paced the Foxes (9-2) on both sides of the ball, recording a team-high eight receptions for 67 yards on offense and coming up with two interceptions from his defensive back position. He returned one of those 30 yards for a touchdown, giving King George a 20-7 third-period lead.
Courtland (7-4) scored on a 77-yard kickoff return by Ahmari Boxley to open the second half. The Cougars mustered just 150 yards of total offense, and QB Chieftain Watson was picked off four times by the Foxes.
Fourth-seeded King George will travel to play No. 1 seed Dinwiddie (10-1) in the regional semifinals next Friday. It will mark the third straight season in which the two teams have met in the playoffs. The Foxes beat the Generals 46-29 in last year’s regional semifinals, but fell 47-41 in the regional championship game two seasons ago.
HUGUENOT 49, EASTERN VIEW 14
The sixth-seeded Cyclones’ season came to an end at the hands of the host Falcons in a Region 4B quarterfinal contest.
John Washington ran for three first-half TDs to buoy the Falcons (11-0) to a 27-7 halftime edge. He found the end zone on runs of 25, 57 and 41 yards.
Huguenot quarterback Linwood Johnson accounted for three scores, throwing a pair of touchdown passes and rushing for another.
The No. 3 seed Falcons will visit second-seeded Varina in next Friday’s regional semifinals.
Eastern View concludes its campaign with a 7-4 record.
REGION 3B
ARMSTRONG 35, JAMES MONROE 18
The Yellow Jackets hung tough with the Wildcats for a half, but ran out of gas down the stretch in a Region 3B quarterfinal loss at Virginia State University.
James Monroe (3-8) trailed just 14-12 at intermission, but third-seeded Armstrong (10-1) ran off 21 straight points after the break to advance to a regional semifinal showdown at No. 2 Kettle Run (11-0) next Friday.
James Monroe freshman quarterback Jude Hardy passed for two touchdowns, one each to Destin Davis and Mike Edwards. Jamie Martino scored on a short touchdown run.
