by | Oct 24, 2024 | ALLFFP, Traffic

Update, 1 p.m.: The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is warning travelers to expect major delays on Interstate 95 southbound through the evening rush hour after a multi-vehicle crash earlier this morning in Caroline County at mile marker 108.

All I-95 southbound traffic is being detoured to exit 110 (Ladysmith) as cleanup continues blocking all southbound travel lanes.

Currently, there is a 12-mile backup from exit 110. There is no reopening time available.

Two trucks involved in the crash remain on the scene. Once the trucks are removed, VDOT crews will be able to assess the pavement condition and guardrail damage then determine repair plans.

Traffic signals along the Route 1 corridor in both Caroline and Spotsylvania counties have been adjusted to reduce congestion.

Drivers with destinations south of the Fredericksburg area should use Route 301 or the most convenient alternate route.

Currently, there’s a seven-mile backup from the diversion point. Traffic signal timing has been adjusted along the Route 1 corridor in Spotsylvania and Caroline counties to ease congestion.

Original story: A multi-vehicle crash is blocking lanes on both Interstate 95 northbound and southbound at mile marker 108 in Caroline County.

According to a news release from the Virginia Department of Transporation’s Fredericksburg District, all I-95 northbound lanes are blocked and two I-95 southbound lanes are also blocked with emergency responders on scene between exit 110 (Ladysmith) and exit 104 (Carmel Church) interchanges.

Expect delays in both directions and use alternate routes.
