  • Cold air from the past few days retreats
  • Sunny and warmer weekend
  • Likely dry through the weekend of Oct. 26

Another quiet weekend is ahead. A sprawling cell of high pressure sits over the Middle Atlantic and the Ohio Valley, keeping rain away through the middle of next week.

Afternoons will trend warmer over the next few days, with highs in the middle or upper 70s Tuesday and Wednesday.

A very weak system passes through Wednesday night or Thursday next week, spawning a few showers, but most of the significant rain is expected to hold farther north into Pennsylvania.

Another dry period will follow into the weekend of Oct. 26, effectively starting another drought, and according to the Virginia Department of Forestry, fall fire season in Virginia has started, continuing until Nov. 30.

Normal temperatures are expected next week with highs in the upper 60s and lows in the low-to-mid 40s.
