A global manufacturer and distributor of natural-stone products is making a nearly $10 million investment in Caroline County.
Fairfax-based Marble Systems Inc. in July purchased a 105,000-square-foot building at 16517 Bull Church Road in Woodford. The property, which will be used as a warehouse and distribution center, is near the Ladysmith exit off Interstate 95.
The company liked the location’s proximity to its headquarters in Northern Virginia, as well as the available labor pool, said Marble Systems Logistics Manager Bill Staerk. Marble has already started operating out of the facility, Staerk said, employing about 10 people.
The company announced last week that it will invest about $9.7 million to expand the Caroline facility. Staerk said about 150,000 square feet of building space will be added to the existing facility. When the project is completed in a couple of years, Marble expects to employ about 60 people there.
“By investing in our home state of Virginia, we have achieved an outstanding geographic position that bolsters our ability to serve our distribution and dealer networks and gives us ready access to the Virginia ports and the I-95 corridor,” Marble CEO Munir Turunc said in last week’s announcement. “And importantly, we will have access to great employee talent for both immediate and future hiring needs.”
