I-95 Northbound and Southbound

Exit 104 (Carmel Church) to Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway)

Wednesday – Thursday, 9 p.m.-5 a.m. Single lane closures for mobile operation to repair potholes between mile markers 101-136.

Exit 143 (Aquia/Garrisonville) to Exit 148 (Quantico)

Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m.-4:30 a.m. Varying single and double lane closures for bridge maintenance at mile marker 145, at the Aquia Creek Bridge. Single lane closure begins at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure starting at 10 p.m.

I-95 Southbound

Exit 133 (Route 17) to Exit 130 (Route 3)

Monday – Wednesday, 9 p.m.- 5 a.m. Right lane closure on the local lanes bridge over the Rappahannock River for routine bridge inspection.

Route 3 over Rappahannock River (Norris Bridge)

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Norris Bridge annual safety inspection. Automated flagging devices will alternate, one-way traffic through the work zone. Flagging crews operate the devices, which can be rapidly adjusted to respond to congestion or incidents on the bridge.

Route 1

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. All travel lanes will remain open, but the alignment of the Route 1 travel lanes will be shifted slightly between Arcadia Road and Mudd Tavern Road for road improvements connected with the Kalahari Resorts & Conventions development. Permit work. Construction will also be underway along the road shoulder.

Route 1 Northbound and Southbound

Tuesday – Thursday, 7 p.m.-7 a.m. Single lane closures between the I-95 southbound off-ramp and Mills Drive for traffic signal work.

Route 1 Southbound

Friday, 10 p.m. – 7 a.m. and Saturday, 10 p.m.- 9 a.m. Single lane closures between the I-95 southbound off-ramp and Mills Drive for traffic signal work.

Route 2/17 (Tidewater Trail)

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. Flagging operation for work at the Glendas Way intersection.

Monday – Friday, 8 p.m.- 5 a.m. Flagging operation and lane closures for milling and paving near Jim Morris Road and the Caroline County line, also between the county line and Powell Street.

Route 3 Eastbound and Westbound

Monday – Friday, 6 a.m.-2 p.m. Single lane closures between Spotswood Furnace Road and Corter Avenue for permit work.

Harrison Road

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Single lane closure between Kingswood Boulevard and Leavells Road with one-way, alternating traffic. Installation of water main under permit.

Southpoint Parkway

Tuesday, Noon – 3:30 p.m.,Tuesday – Thursday, 7:30 p.m. – 5:30 a.m. Wednesday – Thursday, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Single lane closure between Pacific Drive and Route 1.

Pavement Marking Work

Monday – Thursday, 8 p.m.-5 a.m. Alternating mobile lane closures with potential flagging operations to allow crews to apply pavement markings on various primary and secondary routes including Route 1, Route 2/17, Route 3 and Route 208.

Bridge Cleaning

Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Alternating lane closures for bridge cleaning at the following locations:

Route 1 Northbound

24/7, Single lane closure at the bridge over Accokeek Creek for repairs, which is between American Legion Road and South Campus Boulevard.

Route 1 Southbound

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. Single lane closure between Layhill Road and Potomac Creek Drive. Utility installation. Permit work.

Route 17 Northbound and Southbound

Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m.-5 a.m. Alternating lane closures on Route 17 northbound and southbound near the Fauquier County line for bridge repairs.

Route 17 Southbound

Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Single southbound lane closure between Hartwood Church Road and Clark Patton Road. Tree clearing for utility work. Permit work.

Route 610 (Garrisonville Road)

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Single lane closure on Route 610 between Algrace Boulevard and Ripley Road. Construction for turn lane extension. Permit work.

Berea Church Road CLOSURE

Berea Church Road is closed from Berea Knolls Drive to Theresa Garden Place, and northbound access is closed from Route 17 to Berea Knolls Drive. Construction for a Stafford County project to improve Berea Church Road. View the project page.

Brent Point Road

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Pavement markings. Flaggers will alternate one-way traffic on Brent Point Road between Arkendale Road and end of state maintenance.

Brooke Road

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Drainage work. Be alert to flagging crew alternating, one-way traffic between Andrew Chapel Road and Millbrook Road.

Courthouse Road

Monday – Tuesday, 7 p.m.- 6 a.m. Mobile operation with single lane closures for traffic signal inspection.

Eskimo Hill Road

Friday, 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. Bridge inspection. Flaggers will alternate one-way traffic at the bridge over CSX railroad tracks.

Richland Road

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. One-way, alternating traffic directed by a flagging crew. Pavement marking.

Additional Projects in Fredericksburg District

Caroline County

Route 638 (South River Road) Bridge Replacement

Construction is underway to replace the Route 638 (South River Road) bridge over South River. A portion of South River Road is closed with a detour in place. The project will be complete by Sept. 2025.

Gloucester County and Mathews County

Route 3/14 Westbound Bridge Rehabilitation

A major bridge rehabilitation project is underway on the Route 3/Route 14 westbound bridge over Burke Mill Stream, which is located at the Mathews and Gloucester line. Crews are improving the 76-year-old structure by replacing the bridge deck, beams, bridge railings, and guardrails. In late October 2024, the westbound Route 3/14 travel lanes will close at Windsor Road and eastbound and westbound Route 3/14 traffic will both cross the eastbound bridge over Burke Mill Stream, with one lane open in each direction. Left turns from Windsor Road to Route 14 eastbound are prohibited. Project completion in Nov. 2025.

King and Queen County

Route 621 (Bruington Road) over Dickeys Swamp

Bruington Road is closed to through traffic at the bridge over Dickeys Swamp, with a posted detour along Route 14 and Route 360. This is one of multiple bridges undergoing repair as part of the $3.1 million bridge maintenance project in the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula to address structure scour. Scour is the erosion of soil around a bridge’s foundation. Weather permitting, the road will reopen in mid-Dec. 2024.

King and Queen County and King William County

Route 628 (Dorrell Road/Spring Cottage Road) Bridge Closure

Dorrell Road/Spring Cottage Road is closed at the bridge over the Mattaponi River, located at the King and Queen and King William county line. A detour route is posted. Construction is underway on a major bridge rehabilitation project. The road will remain closed until early June 2025. The bridge closed for motorist safety in March 2023 after a routine inspection found significant deterioration in key bridge elements.

Spotsylvania County

I-95 Southbound Exit 126 Off-Ramp and Route 1 Southbound

A second right turn lane is under construction from the I-95 southbound off-ramp at exit 126 onto Route 1 southbound. Route 1 southbound is being widened from the off-ramp to Southpoint Parkway with an additional turn lane. A second right turn lane is being added from Route 1 southbound to Southpoint Parkway. Traffic islands will be installed along Southpoint Parkway as a safety improvement to allow left turns into driveways but restrict through and left-turning traffic exiting from side streets. Project completion in Aug. 2025.

Route 3 Westbound Culvert Installation at Lick Run

Crews installed a new culvert on Route 3 westbound over Lick Run during the weekend of Sept. 13-16, 2024. Periodic single lane closures will continue at Lick Run for paving and other final construction activities. Project completion in early Nov. 2024.

Route 17 (Mills Drive) Overpass Replacement and Widening

Route 17 was widened from two to four lanes from just east of the Hospital Boulevard/Germanna Point Drive intersection to west of a new four-lane I-95 overpass built by this project. Improvements included a shared-use path, sidewalk, crosswalks, and pedestrian crossing signal equipment. New travel lanes are open, but additional construction activity continues. Project completion was originally scheduled for Feb. 2024.

Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road) Widening

Mudd Tavern Road is being widened to four lanes between I-95 and Route 1. A new secondary access route, Route 2092, is under construction parallel to Mudd Tavern Road, and it will connect with South Roxbury Mill Road and Dan Bell Lane. Project completion in May 2025.

Route 620 (Harrison Road) Reconstruction and Widening

Harrison Road is being widened to four lanes between Gordon Road and Old Plank Road. The project will build a center turn lane along Harrison Road and additional through travel lanes at the Old Plank Road and Gordon Road intersections, and extend the current turn lanes at these intersections. Sidewalks will be built along Harrison Road, and pedestrian crossing signal equipment and crosswalks will be added at the Old Plank Road and Gordon Road intersections. Project completion late summer 2026.

Stafford County

Banks Ford Parkway and Celebrate Virginia Parkway Modular Roundabout

Construction to install a modular roundabout is underway at the intersection of Banks Ford Parkway and Celebrate Virgina Parkway. Crews are installing modular roundabout pieces, which are made from recycled material. Signs and pavement markings will guide motorists through the roundabout. Project completion in late Oct. 2024.

Westmoreland County

Route 658 (Monroe Bay Circle)

Monroe Bay Circle is reduced to a single travel lane with a temporary bridge spanning Monroe Creek. A temporary traffic signal is directing one-way, alternating traffic. The road is scheduled to close at the bridge on Monday, Oct. 21, as construction begins to build a new bridge over Monroe Creek. Motorists will follow a posted detour. Monroe Bay Circle will be closed until the new bridge opens in Sept. 2025.
