The Fredericksburg area’s third Publix is expected to open in late 2024.
A new building for a 48,387-square-foot grocery store is currently under construction at 5980 Plank Road in Spotsylvania County — near the Royal Oaks subdivision and the intersection with Spotswood Furnace Road.
The new Publix is part of The Morgan Companies’ Chancellor Crossing project. Additional commercial space is being built at Chancellor Crossing; announced co-tenants include Panera Bread, Virginia Credit Union, Lee Nails, Habit Burger Grill, Heartland Dental and BeMobile. Additional space is available.
Publix is hiring for all departments at its new store and is holding a job fair this weekend at the Hilton Garden Inn at 1060 Hospitality Lane in Fredericksburg. The job fair is being held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
When it opens, the Chancellor Crossing store will be the third Publix location in the market. The other two are at Cosner’s Corner in Spotsylvania and the Embrey Mill Town Center in Stafford County. The Chancellor Crossing store is expected to open in December, but there’s not yet an exact date.
As is the case at Chancellor Crossing, the Publix-anchored shopping center at Embrey Mill has seen significant additional commercial activity recently. Businesses that have opened near the Embrey Mill Publix include Five Guys, Crimson Coward, Starbucks, Jersey Mike’s, Chipotle, Panera, Wawa, McDonald’s, AT&T, AutoZone and a Mary Washington Healthcare facility offering medical imaging, medical laboratories, physical therapy, primary care, obstetrics and gynecology, and urgent care.
