A Spotsylvania County Public Schools bus aide is incarcerated at Rappahannock Regional Jail under no bond after he was accused of inappropriately touching students with disabilities on the bus this past Thursday.

The students are ages 4 and 5.

According to a release from the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office, detectives were notified by school officials after inappropriate touching of a student allegedly occurred on the bus.

Detectives with the Child Victim Unit and school administrators immediately began an investigation and allegedly obtained substantial evidence that Miguel Velasquez Velasco, 22, of Fredericksburg assaulted three children on the bus.

Velasquez Velasco is facing eight charges of aggravated sexual battery of a child, two counts of indecent liberties with a child while in a custodial role and one count of attempted sodomy of a child. The sheriff’s office noted that Velasquez Velasco’s immigration status is that of a Lawful Permanent Resident of the U.S., meaning he is a non-citizen who is lawfully authorized to live permanently in the U.S. and holds a “green card.” The sheriff’s office also noted Velasquez Velasco has no known criminal record. The case remains under investigation, and the sheriff’s office said no further information will be released at this time.

Velasquez Velasco is the second Spotsylvania schools employee arrested within a week. Sheriff’s Office Maj. Troy Skebo said Parkside Elementary School autism teacher Miguel Staples, 28, of Louisa County, was arrested on a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and released on his own recognizance Sept. 20 after a 6-year-old autistic child was discovered on Smith Station Road. Deputies learned through their investigation that the child had walked out of Parkside. The child was not injured and the case remains under investigation.
