Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office Deputy Amanda Mele has received the Virginia Sheriff’s Association 2024 Valor Award.
Deputy Mele was returning home after her shift when she noticed something burning in the woods. Deputy Mele discovered a vehicle that had crashed, overturned, and was on fire. She first rescued a disoriented passenger and then returned to remove a second, unresponsive passenger from the burning vehicle, all while live power lines were just a few feet away.
