Got bees?

The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is now accepting applications for the 2024 Beehive Distribution Program. Virginia residents age 18 or older can apply for free equipment for assembling new beehives. Recipients will be selected at random from qualifying applications received during the application period, which runs until Sept. 6.

Recipients of beehive units must assemble the equipment and occupy it with a colony of honey bees within one year of receiving the equipment. The department does not provide honey bees or equipment for managing the hives, such as personal safety equipment or honey processing equipment.
