Construction means changes begin Monday for commuters in Prince William County

VDOT says the lane closure is needed for crews to continue work on the Opitz Boulevard bridge as part of the 95 Express Lanes/Opitz Boulevard Ramp project.

VDOT says there will be one westbound through lane on Opitz Boulevard from River Rock Way to Telegraph Road. The ramp to I-95 North will remain open, as will both eastbound lanes on Opitz Boulevard.

Drivers are advised to allow extra travel time or use alternate routes. To avoid the lane closure, drivers on westbound Opitz Boulevard can:

Turn left to go south on Potomac Center Boulevard
Turn right to go west on Dale Boulevard
Turn right to go north on Gideon Drive
Continue straight to the Opitz Boulevard/Smoketown Road intersection

The Opitz Boulevard Bridge is being improved as part of the overall 95 Express Lanes/Opitz Boulevard Ramp project. The bridge will feature a new sidewalk for pedestrians.

The new south-facing, reversible 95 Express Lanes ramp is scheduled to open in fall 2024. When the new ramp opens, travelers can benefit from having direct access from the northbound 95 Express Lanes onto Opitz Boulevard on weekday mornings and from Opitz Boulevard to the southbound 95 Express Lanes on weekday afternoons. A traffic signal in the center of the bridge will control traffic movements.

The 95 Express Lanes/Opitz Boulevard Ramp project is being delivered as part of the 95 Express Lanes public-private partnership between the Commonwealth and Transurban.
