Two recent crashes involving motorcycles in the Fredericksburg area left one man dead and another with life-threatening injuries.

On Saturday at 5:25 p.m. Spotsylvania County deputies were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle and a four-door sedan in the area of Benchmark Road and Cahill Street. Angel G. Flores, 20, of Spotsylvania, died from his injuries at an area hospital.

The driver of the sedan, a 74-year-old man from Spotsylvania, was not injured. The accident is currently under investigation by the sheriff’s office’s accident reconstruction team.

On Thursday at approximately 4:11 p.m., Stafford County deputies responded to the 200 block of Brooke Road and were advised that two motorcycles collided with each other. Due to the seriousness of the injuries, the road was closed while one of the drivers was being airlifted to a nearby hospital.

The crash is under investigation by the sheriff’s office traffic safety unit. Preliminary reports suggest that a tractor was traveling on the roadway while one motorcyclist was behind it. The motorcyclist crossed the double yellow line in an attempt to pass and was traveling on the wrong side of the road, according to a release from the sheriff’s office. The other motorcyclist was traveling in the opposite direction and could not see the passing motorcycle because of a hill. That led to the head-on crash.

One driver sustained minor injuries, while the other suffered life-threatening injuries. The sheriff’s office emphasized that all drivers should maintain the proper lane of travel and only pass in designated passing zones.
