VDOT says if you’re on Route 1 in the Fredericksburg area, expect brief daytime delays in June on the Falmouth Bridge over the Rappahannock River for an in-depth bridge inspection.
The inspection will be underway starting Monday, June 3 through Thursday, June 13, weather permitting. You can expect lane closures on the Falmouth Bridge at the following times:
Monday, June 3 – Thursday, June 6- Route 1 northbound–8 a.m. to 2 p.m.–Single lane closure
Monday, June 10 – Thursday, June 13- Route 1 southbound–8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.–Single lane closure
Built in 1943, the Falmouth Bridge carries Route 1 over the Rappahannock River between the City of Fredericksburg and Stafford County. It carries an average of 38,000 vehicles a day, according to recent traffic counts.A major rehabilitation project is currently in the design phase to improve the structure’s condition.
