The Fredericksburg Free Press asked candidates for the 7th Congressional District primary election to answer five questions in 250 words or less. The following responses are in the candidate’s own words and have only been lightly edited for length or clarity. The primary election is June 18. The general election is Nov. 5.
What was the moment you decided to become involved in politics?
It was February 2019, when I heard Governor Northam giving the protocol on how to get rid of a baby who survived abortion. I thought in a Biblical scripture that says, “From the mouth of babes and nursing infants, You have established strength….” (Psalm 8:2) Then, I thought, we can’t let this happen to the United States. I decided to run for public office for the first time in 2019 for the 52 district Virginia House of Delegates. Again, I ran for the same district in 2021. Last year I ran for Virginia State Senate 29 district. I lost my primary by two votes. This is my 4th campaign. I am running to defend freedoms I found when I came to the United States more than 30 years ago. I want to make sure future generations will have those freedoms that make the United States a great country.
If you were to win the primary, would you broaden your message to appeal to voters outside your own party? If so, how?
Yes, I believe people in general have needs common to all. I will make sure those needs are effectively communicated because there are more things that unify us than those that separate us. I will focus on things that bring us together and matter to all.
The House of Representatives operates at the federal level. What will you do to ensure that the interests of your constituents in the 7th District are well represented?
District 7 in Virginia is a unique Congressional District. Most of the population lives in a small geographical area. That is the eastern side of the district. However, 70% of district 7 is rural and farmland, knowing their needs and expectations.
What is the defining issue of this race?
Education, which implies this and future generations.
It’s Jan. 3, 2025. You have been newly inaugurated as part of the new United States Congress. What is your first course of action?
First, I will be assigned to one or more of the twenty permanent committees.
My first choices are: Education and the Work Forces, Natural Resources, Homeland Security, Veterans affairs and Foreign Affairs. I will work in the promises I am making as a candidate to bring them to fruition
