A former behavioral intervention specialist at Cedar Forest Elementary School in Spotsylvania County was charged with one count of misdemeanor assault and battery after video allegedly showed her striking a 6-year-old boy with the heel of a shoe on April 11.

The child was uninjured in the incident.

Gloria Joan Jackson, 73, of Spotsylvania will appear in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court July 10.

The Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the county’s social services department in the investigation. The school division placed Jackson on leave at the time of the incident, and she’s since been terminated.
